THE BETSY'S CURATOR BREAKFAST SALON II
Salon II with Co-hosts, Rosie Gordon Wallace, Founder and Director of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator, and Pablo Cartaya, Director of The Betsy's Escribe Aquí/Write Here. ON THE ARTS AS A CONDUIT TO & CREATOR OF COMMUNITY with Special Guests: Artist Onajide Shabaka, recipient of DVCAI 2016 20th Anniversary Grant, Cerise Sutton, Chief Programs Officer, South Florida CARES Mentoring Movement, and others.
The arts are widely recognized as a catalyst for community building, and for the capacity to bring people together, allowing them to transcend visceral differences and find areas of common ground. Yet funding (and support) is scarce and shrinking for arts programs (and artists) even when they work as critical community change-makers. How do artists prevail in spite of these challenges? Why do they remain committed to the vision and mission of using their voices to bring people together through image, sound, word, gesture? What are we called to do now, when the need for a unified voice around common decency and inclusion may be more important than ever? What are we doing (alone and together) that works, and how can we do more of it, despite the challenges we face, as a community, a country, a world?
A light breakfast will be served; pastries, seasonal fruit and berries, fruit and coffee.
This event is free and open to the community, but seats are limited. Your RSVP is required.
